Workshop

Exploring CityEngine

Host

Esri

Times

9:00 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 17:00

Max. attendees

16

Location

Esri Netherlands Office, Rotterdam

Prerequisites

This instructor-led hands-on training session is intended for anyone interested in 3D urban design. Familiarity with ArcGIS for Desktop and CityEngine is recommended. Level is considered Intermediate.

Description

Esri® CityEngine® software is able to simulate the impact of design decisions in real time, enabling decision makers to meet or exceed project goals, whether they be sustainability metrics, regulatory compliance, or cost reduction. Various project examples will showcase the urban planning and design capabilities using CityEngine. This hands-on workshop introduces CityEngine at an intermediate level from existing city creation to the planning, redesign, and evaluation of design alternatives using the latest 3D parametric design rules.

Workshop

Exploring GeoPlanner

Host

Esri

Times

9:00 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 17:00

Max. attendees

16

Location

Esri Netherlands Office, Rotterdam

Prerequisites

Classroom-style training with hands-on exercises using GeoPlanner. Some familiarity with ArcGIS Online would be helpful, but is not necessary.

Description

GeoPlanner for ArcGIS helps planning and design professionals create, share, analyze and report on design alternatives. In this training, you will use GeoPlanner to access shared datasets from ArcGIS Online to help you visualize and understand the site conditions in which a design or plan evolves. You'll then learn how to use GeoPlanner to create, evaluate and compare multiple scenarios. Finally, you'll learn how to identify optimal site locations and identify risks using spatial analysis and suitability modeling.

Workshop

GeoDesign Hub

Host

Carl Steinitz

Times

9:00 - 17:30

Max. attendees

20

Location

Vrije Universiteit (VU Amsterdam)

Prerequisites

Bring a laptop with at least 1366x768 resolution and Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox installed . We assume that you are aware of the book "A Framework for Geodesign" and that you may have read it. It places geodesign change-synthesis in its broader context. For a recent lecture on geodesign dynamics and four recent case studies, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf_R4rB7MIQ

Description

Geodesignhub software implements the Steinitz geodesign framework. It integrates the collaborators from the design disciplines, geographic sciences, local stakeholders and information technologies into a single digital workflow and promotes collaborative decision making. The Geodesignhub digital workflow is an open system where the participants bring their data and ideas into the tool, propose policies and projects, and while going through the various stages of the framework are able to compare alternatives and negotiate towards a single design. The negotiations among teams which began with differing decision priorities and which produced alternative designs highlight the value of a geodesign approach in accelerating progress toward agreement for the future of the study region.

Workshop

Utilizing Subsurface Data for Urban Planning, Design, Construction and Maintenance

Host

TNO & Geodan

Times

13:30 – 17:00

Max. attendees

Location

VU Amsterdam

Prerequisites

None

Description

Opening up the subsurface for the cities of tomorrow; considering access to subsurface knowledge and evaluation of practices and techniques
Increasing urbanization throughout the world challenges the sustainable development and resilience of cities. This workshop presents practises and techniques to facilitate greater interaction between experts who develop urban subsurface knowledge and those who can benefit most from it - urban decision makers, urban developers, builders and practitioners. Over the last couple of years, het EU Action TU1206 Sub-Urban programme has identified a knowledge and communication gap between subsurface experts, urban planners and decision makers. We argue that the only possible way to bridge this gap is to provide the right type of subsurface information, in the right format, and at the right time and make sure that the people receiving the information are able to understand and use the information to take decisions. Recent technological developments in combination with insights from scientific research on multi stakeholder decision processes in spatial development, reveal ways to improve collaboration. Top of the range visualization and discussion tools help creating mutual understanding between different disciplines and different stakeholders. Integrated Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Models (BIM) may hold crucial value from one phase to the next, becoming more and more valuable as it goes across stakeholders, domains and disciplines.

Workshop

Geodesign for Safe and Smart Cities - Living Lab ArenA

Host

ArenA Innovation Centre & Geodan

Times

13:30 - 17:30

Max. attendees

15

Location

Amsterdam ArenA Stadium

Prerequisites

None

Description

The Amsterdam ArenA is the heart of a small city aka Amsterdam South East, a live playground for co-creation and testing of Smart Stadium and Smart City solutions concerning mobility, sustainability, fan experience, security and urban farming. In our vision, we have to embrace a system approach rather than optimize separate processes. New applications and solutions are not bound to the stadium, but also impact the Amsterdam area surrounding the stadium itself. Lots of actors and different stakeholders are involved. The Amsterdam ArenA and Geodan joined their forces to integrate sensor data with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Models (BIM). Integrating and providing data from multiple disciplines and sources, we facilitate multi criteria decision making in order to improve collaboration, efficiency and performance. The ArenA endeavours to become the first fully data driven operated stadium in the world. We are very excited to present you the latest advances during the Pre-Conference Smart Stadium Workshop.
