Plenary Panel
In the past few years, there has been many initiatives from policy-makers and industry to expedite the adoption of digital engineering in civil infrastructure and connecting these with urban planning and management control systems (at the level of building, area and infrastructure). Since urban development and infrastructure projects are most of the time dependent on public funding and support, public sector plays, besides planner, architects and building industry, a significant role in the implementation of new technology in urban areas, with special focus on sustainable development and climate change mitigation. All building and urban system management components requires standardized devices and data standards. New players like home and building control sector and service providers are venturing into urban development arena (including infrastructure development), offering new concepts and planning tools, especially in enabling sustainable energy transition. The session shall discuss the progress of such initiatives and analyze the challenges and identify further roadmaps to be taken in ensuring sustainable urban development in Europe.
